There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just across the border from next door Thailand, where gambling den gaming is illegal. Eight casinos are established in a relatively small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime location, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a few restrictions constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; still, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are for all intents and purposes needed to pass, there are means around this, as is accurate of many borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau casino, contains 150 slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machines and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel complex that features many luxuries accompanying the gambling hall, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 tables.
