There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just over the border from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den betting is not legal. Eight gambling halls are based in a generally tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime spot, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing income acquired from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of limitations requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; although, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 1700, and though visas are supposedly needed to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is correct of most borders.
The first Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat casino, contains 150 slot machines and sixty gaming tables. The Naga river boat never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 table games, including eighty seven punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around vacation and hotel complex that highlights a number of amenities aside from the gambling hall, which offers 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and eighty eight table games.
